Philip H. (Phil) Jones, 80, passed away Jan. 3, 2021, at Wesley Hospital, Wichita. Born to Columbus Jones and Vera (Diller) Jones on Feb. 15, 1940, at home in Washington, he spent his childhood on the family farm.

He attended grade school in Washington, graduating from Washington High School in 1958. Phil went on to attend Washburn University, graduating with a BA in Psychology in 1963 and a BBA in Business in 1964. He began graduate work at Kansas State University before embarking upon a career in human resources, spending the next 40 years at various manufacturing firms in Wichita. He retired from Child Start in 2005.

He married Marilyn (Gross) Leffingwell in 1960. Two children were born of this union: Bruce Jones and Roxanne Filby.

In 1981 he married Ernestine (Watkins) Jones.

Phil loved to travel, grill, and create in his woodworking shop. He was very fond of poetry as well as a spirited political discussion and had a mischievous sense of humor, loving a good story.

Survivors include his wife Ernestine, son, Bruce (Chris) Jones, of Olathe, daughter, Roxanne (Jeff) Filby, of Lincoln, Neb., granddaughters Alex and Anna Jones, grandson Evan Husted, and former wife Marilyn Leffingwell.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Wichita.

Due to COVID restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required. Graveside service and burial will follow on Jan. 19 at Washington City Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to Washburn University Foundation, 1729 SW MacVicar Ave., Topeka, KS, 66604 and will benefit Washburn business students.
