Burton William McGrath, 85, of Greenleaf, died Dec. 31, 2020, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1935, in Washington County to Russell McGrath and Heloise (Jones) McGrath. He was the oldest of nine children. He was a lifelong farmer near Kimeo.

On Sept. 26, 1956, he was united in marriage to Wilma Hugunin. To this union four children were born, Roger, Colette, Regina and Mark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lynda Edgar and Martha Reed; and brother, David McGrath.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; sons, Roger (Mary) McGrath, of Waterville, and Mark McGrath, of Manhattan; daughters, Colette (Johnnie) Rothlisberger, of Barnes, and Regina (Randy) Lilley, of Topeka; sisters, Marilyn Ohlde and Maxine Rush, both of Linn; three brothers, Elmo (Dee) McGrath, of Madison, Dale (Jenny) McGrath, of Valley Falls, and Darold McGrath, of Madison; sister-in-law, Marjorie Meharg, of Pheonix, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Larry Iverson, of Independence, Mo.; and 5 grandchildren and 6great grandchildren.

The funeral service was Jan. 4 at the United Methodist Church in Green. Rev. Sarah Gill officiated. The pianist was Rhonda Slingsby. Music included "Amazing Grace” and “Go Tell It on the Mountain”.

The pallbearers were Matt Ohlde, Jaylon Rush, Gary Edgar, Ray Hugunin, Jared McGrath and Eric McGrath.

Burial was in the Greenleaf City Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established to the Green United Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Hospice House. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
