Joseph Brungardt, 14, of Blue Rapids, died Feb. 21, 2021, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.

He was born Jan. 3, 2007, in Fairbury, Neb., to Michael and Holly (Goeckel) Brungardt.

He enjoyed playing video games, building things with his Legos and doing puzzles with the family. He also loved history and music and played the piano.

He leaves behind his mother and father, Holly and Michael Brungardt, of Blue Rapids; siblings, Elizabeth Grate (Laurence), Heather Mitchell (Joshua), William Moore, Sophie Brungardt, Emma Brungardt and Anna Brungardt; grandparents Catherine and Timothy Gastmann, Jerry Goeckel, Frances and Arthur Davenport, and Melvin Brungardt.

A funeral service was Feb. 27 at St. John's Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Musicians were Gina Miller, Kathleen Fincham, Allison Fincham and Garret Fincham. Music selections were “On Eagles Wings,” “Lord of the Dance” and “Sing to the Mountains.”

Pallbearers were Robbie Stryker, Hoss Simmet, Matthew Ekstrum, Robert Nietfeld, Mike Savage and Ben Worcester. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Ebner, Patrick Simmet, Fred Miller, Francis Goeckel, Jim Musil, Lee Bigham and Steven Wright.

A private family burial was at Prospect Hill Cemetery near Blue Rapids.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
