Valuations, mill levies listed for taxing entities

A comparison of the valuations and mill levies for all taxing entities in Washington County can be found in this week’s edition.

The county’s valuation stands at $141,897,830. This is up from $122,357,466. The mill levy dropped from 65.947 in 2020 to 58.019 in 2021.

The cities with mill levy increases include Clifton, Greenleaf, Hanover, Hol lenberg, Palmer, Vining and Washington. Decreases were seen in Barnes, Haddam, Linn and Morrowville.

The City of Mahaska has the highest mill levy, at 72.455, and had the biggest jump, of 12.231 mills. Barnes is right behind them with a 71.752 levy and Haddam has 69.332.

Vining is the lowest with 29.790 and Hollenberg is at 38.191. Linn is next at 41.894.

On a valuation basis, Washington is the highest with a $6,992,755 valuation, followed by Hanover at $6,701,225. Well below them is Linn, in third, at $2,014,046.

The local school district mill levies are all very close. USD 108 Washington County has the highest mill levy at 44.364 mills, while USD 224 Clifton-Clyde is at 44.209 and USD 223 Barnes-Hanover-Linn is at 43.734.
