Washington Rotarian Dr. David Hodgson presented Linn’s Maggie Hansen with the Rotary Student of the Month award.
Linn High School senior Maggie Hansen was awarded Rotary Club Student of the Month on Feb. 14. She was selected based on her academic prowess, athletic accomplishments, leadership, activities and character.
She carries a 3.8 GPA at Linn and is a high school honor roll student each semester. Participation in forensics and scholars bowl is indicative of her academic abilities.
Athletically she has played volleyball at Linn every year and has also participated in two years of basketball and one year of track and field. In 2020 she received All-Eastern Kansas First Team designation in volleyball and Twin Valley All-League Second Team honors the following year.
Her leadership ability is demonstrated by four years as a class officer including selection as senior class president this year. She also has served as an officer in Thespians, a two-year officer in FCCLA and serves in student council yearly.
She also does FBLA, vocal music performance, Linn High School pep band and music and memory activities at Linn.
Particularly adept at employing her vocal talents, she received second place in public speaking at the FBLA Regionals in both 2018 and 2019 and, as a singer, received a number 1 rating at league, regional and state competitions for vocal solo in 2019, a number 1 at league and regionals and number 2 in 2020 for vocal solo, a number 1 at league, regional and state and with two classmates achieved a number 1 for vocal trio at all three levels in 2020. She was also chosen to sing the national anthem at the state FBLA conference in 2018.
Linn High School counselor Tim Voelker says, “Maggie has determination and grit. She doesn’t mind working hard to handle the challenges that present themselves in her studies and in her life.”
In her spare time, she likes to sing, play ball with her cousins, go on hikes and spend time with family.
Her parents are Chris and Deb Hansen, of Greenleaf.
Washington Rotary Club has been honoring Washington County’s best all-around students with student of the Month recognition for more than 17 years.
