Gerleve, 94, of Hanover, died March 11, 2024, at the Hanover Hospital.

She was born to Wesley and Anna (Goeckel) Nemec at rural Hanover on Aug. 22, 1929. She attended Sunnyside Country School, graduating from the 8th grade. In 1949 she married Bernard Gerleve at St. John Catholic Church. They had four sons and five daughters.

She was a homemaker and farm wife, helping with the many chores. She volunteered at Meals on Wheels.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She served on the soup label committee and belonged to the quilting group.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bernard; sons, Dan Gerleve and Don Gerleve; son-in-law, Hugh Craven; brother, Wesley Nemec; and sisters, Gertrude Bothwell, Berniece Samuelson, Donna Bothwell.

Survivors include her children, Dianne (Bruce) Herrs, Debbie (Chuck) Doebele, Dottie Craven, Donna (Don) Wilkinson, Denise (Frank) Bruna, Doug (Lori) Gerleve, Dale (Juanita) Gerleve; daughter-in-law, Julie Gerleve; and sistersin- law, Pat Rettig and Margaret Nemec; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was March 15 at the Hanover Mortuary. A rosary service was at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. A funeral service was March 16 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Father David Metz officiated. Janet Fritschi was organist. Hymn selections were “Be Not Afraid,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles Wings.”

Pallbearers were Brandon Gerleve, Jared Gerleve, Eric Gerleve, Dustin Doebele, Lee Bruna, Rus Bruna, Tim Bruna, Greg Bruna, Troy Bruna, Caleb Bruna and Lance Gerleve.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established to be determined. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
