Robert Springer, 88, of Hanover, died Nov. 26, 2020, in Lincoln, Neb.

He was born to Noble Jacob and Savilla Marie Zabel Springer on Oct. 14, 1932, in Manhattan.

He attended grade school in Garrison, Kan., and graduated from Randolph High School in 1950. He then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo., to study telegraphy. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. After serving in the military, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegraph clerk until he retired in 1994.

On July 9, 1956, he married Judy Kay Burgman. They had three children together, Susan Lynn, Douglas Robert, and Nancy Kay.

He was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign War of Green, Kansas, American Legion of Hanover, and the National Association of Retired Veteran Railroad Employees.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of the home; daughter Susan (Maurice) Friedrichs, of Marysville; son Douglas Springer, of Hanover; daughter, Nancy Springer, of Salina; 4 grandsons; and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Alyce Springer, Sharon Harding, and Sandy (Charles) Rightmeier.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eldon Springer.

A private funeral service was Nov. 30 at the Hanover Mortuary. Rev. Dan Norwood officiated. Music selections were “Go Rest High on That Mountain” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Pallbearers were Kevin Weiche, Brady Shirk, Mike Shirk, Jacob Friedrich and Justin Springer.

Burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested for the United Methodist Church of Barnes and The Marysville Union Pacific Depot. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary.
