Washington County has accumulated more than $297,000 in its health savings account in 15 months thanks to a change in the county’s health insurance. Starting in January 2023, the county switched from a “cookie cutter” $1,000 deductible Blue Cross Blue Shield plan to a high deductible plan to save significant money.

The Board of County Commissioners interviewed this week their second candidate for the new economic development and tourism position with the county. The commissioners went into executive session with Alice Stoker for 15 minutes for an interview. Last week the commissioners interviewed Ryan Kern.

A high speed chase through Clay and Washington Counties on Monday ended with a spectacular accident that fortunately included no serious injuries. The driver was Robert Darius Allen, 22, of Bellevue, Wash.
