Linn spring band concert planned

The Linn Music Department will have their spring band concert on Tuesday, March 29. The concert will be at 7 p.m. in the Linn School Auditorium. The concert will feature the 5th grade and 6th grade bands playing several numbers separately and they will also play several numbers together. Such classics as Take Me Out To The Ball Game, When The Saints Go Marching In and Rock Around The Clock will be performed. The 7-12 Band will perform their two contest pieces, Cumberland Cross and Spania as well as several other pieces.

FFA meetings planned

The Kansas FFA Foundation is launching community engagement sessions to the North Central region. Meetings will be held during April, with other areas of Kansas to follow. Representatives from the Kansas FFA Foundation, FFA members, FFA officers and local supporters will share important information. The Our Youth. Our Future. Our Kansas FFA presentation will discuss exciting developments for the future of agriculture education throughout Kansas.

Local meetings include: Clay Center – Wednesday, April 20th, Fairgrounds Conference Center, 2 pm & 7 pm

Washington – Tuesday April 26th, KSDS East Training Center, 2 pm & 7 pm

Courtland – Wednesday, April 27th, JenRus Coworking, 3:30 pm

Belleville – Wednesday, April 27th, High School Commons Area, 7 pm

“Through a statewide feasibility study, we gained a greater sense that individuals who believe in agriculture education and FFA wanted the opportunity to hear more about the program,” said Beth Gaines, executive director of the Kansas FFA Foundation. “We are taking this opportunity to travel the state to share some of the exciting developments and some of the real challenges that are ahead as we strategically prepare for our future.”

Meeting topics will include some historical information, the focus of the future, the impact on Kansas agriculture, FFA funding and an opportunity to ask questions. The presentation will last about an hour.

Light refreshments will be served. RSVPs are requested, but everyone is invited.

Gardening meeting is April 7

Are you new to gardening, or have you been gardening for years? Either way come learn from Kelsey Hatesohl, RVED Horticulture Agent, as she talks about the basics of vegetable gardening. We will start at the beginning by planning out your garden. Then we will talk about planting, watering, insect identification, and harvesting. We will also talk about growing vegetables in raised beds as well as containers.

This program will be on Thursday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the Belleville Public Library, 1327 19th Street Belleville, KS 66935. Participants are asked to RSVP to the Washington Extension Office at 785-325-2121 or by emailing Kelsey Hatesohl at khatesohl@ksu.edu.

Be financially prepared for disaster

Storm season is quickly approaching. If you only had a moment’s notice to take shelter or evacuate before a disaster, would you be ready? While being physically prepared can be vital to survival, being financially prepared is also important especially following a disaster! Take the time now to prepare before a disaster strikes, so you will not be caught off guard financially.

Monica Thayer, Family Resource Management Extension Agent, will be presenting “Get Financially Prepared: Take Steps Ahead of Disaster” as a part of the upcoming Family and Consumer Sciences Series offered in the River Valley District.

Mental health event planned in Clyde

The second-annual Community Mental Health and Wellness Fair “Rise Above the Stigma” event is scheduled for Sunday, April 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Clifton-Clyde High School Gym - 616 N High, Clyde.

The first-annual Mental Health and Wellness Fair was extremely well attended, according to organizers, and attendees stated high gratitude and appreciation regarding the event.

This fair is to bring awareness and information to our community regarding mental health illnesses and recovery. Organizers said they hope to dispel the stigma around mental health illnesses and to encourage individuals to seek support by spotlighting agencies available to assist.

The following is a schedule for the evening: 3 p.m.: The welcome will include some insight on the current issues within the communities, statistics, and situations going on to be aware of.

3:15 p.m. - Key Note Address (1 hour): The Key Note Address speaker will talk about mental illnesses, risk factors, warning signs, trafficking, and promoting safety.

4:15 p.m. - Wellness Providers: Wellness providers will be present to give a quick (2 minute) introduction about themselves, location, organization, specialty, and fees.

4:30 p.m. - Q&A with Providers in Break out Rooms: Wellness providers will be assigned to different rooms to allow for more questions or get further information regarding their practice.

All attendees will receive a resource booklet of wellness providers who are present and within the area.

Small business succession planning coaching available

Businesses located in North Central Kansas are invited to apply for one-on-one small business succession planning coaching. A limited number of openings are available.

The assistance is intended to help business owners have a plan for how they want to exit their business and maximize the value of their business. This coaching is one part of a series of free training that the North Central Regional Planning Commission (NCRPC), based in Beloit, Kansas, is hosting through June 2022. The training is made possible, in part, through the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration’s CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant awarded to the NCRPC.

Businesses located in the NCRPC 12-county service area are eligible to apply — including the counties of Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Jewell, Lincoln, Marshall, Mitchell, Ottawa, Republic, Saline and Washington. Assistance will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from qualified applications.
