After a peak of active cases in mid-November, Washington County has seen a trend of decreasing active cases of COVID-19, according to numbers tracked by the Washington County News.

Washington County Health Officer Tiffany Hayman said on Tuesday they tallied 14 active cases of COVID-19, down from 22 last week, and two hospitalizations. When comparing weekly counts on Tuesdays, Washington County was at a high point on Nov. 17 with 92 cases. That dropped to 46 the following week before falling to 22 last week and 14 this week.

This is the lowest point since a count of seven active cases on Oct. 27.

The trend of decreasing numbers reflects what is being seen in most of the counties of the 14-count region around Washington County in Kansas. Marshall, Clay and Cloud Counties are all down, while Republic and Riley Counties are up.

The average amount of time for COVID symptoms to appear after being infected is between 2-14 days, with most showing five days after exposure. So the concern with a spike of infections from Thanksgiving gatherings has not come to fruition. Thanksgiving Day infections would show between Nov. 28 and Dec. 10, with most cases arriving on Dec. 1.
