Tigers compete in three golf tourneys in last week

The Washington County Tigers golf team started a busy week of golf last Tuesday at the Republic County Invitational golf tourney in Belleville. The two-man team of Hunter Johnson and Evan Ouellette scored a combined 187 to place third as a team at the large meet. Johnson shot a 90 and Ouellette shot a 97 on the day.

Records fall at Belleville Lions meet

The Belleville Lions Club track meet is traditionally a popular meet for athletes and fans alike, but many commented that Tuesday’s meet at the Republic County High School track was the first in years where pleasant spring weather ruled the day. The meet always seemed to coincide with a cold front or rain or wind or all of the above, but this year’s weather was almost perfect and the performances reflected that with several meet records falling.

WASHINGTON – Hanover hosted a six-team junior high track meet on Thursday in Washington. Valley Heights won both eighth grade divisions and the seven grade boys division while Clifton-Clyde won the seventh grade girls division.

WASHINGTON – It was a traditional cool weather track meet on Tuesday as the four schools in Washington County met for a quadrangular meet in Washington. The Linn girls trailed Washington County after the field events, but they came on strong with several sprinters overwhelming the field in the running events. They ended up winning with 94 points followed by Washington County with 67.5 points.

Junior high teams get cool but dry start to track season

WASHINGTON – It was a cool day for the start of junior high track season on Monday in Washington. The 11-team meet had been postponed from last Thursday and the rain held off for the duration this week, except for a few sprinkles. The Clifton-Clyde 6th and 7th grade girls team won their division. Riley County won the other three divisions.

Linn, Hanover open track season

Linn senior sprinter Kurt Van der Merwe dominated the 100 and 200 and was the anchor leg of Linn’s gold medal 4x100 relay. The Linn boys won the fi rst meet of the season.

BLUE RAPIDS – The Linn boys won the season opener track meet with eight of their nine team members scoring. They put up 111 points to win, with Valley Heights in second with 97. Chad Gross tied the school record while winning the high jump by clearing 6-5 on his first attempt. The record was set by Schuyler Peters.

Clifton-Clyde Eagles to look at league options

CLYDE – The Clifton-Clyde school board plans to discuss their league affi liation at Monday night’s board meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Clifton-Clyde High School. Superintendent Corey Reese said the discussion is just a continuation of the discussion held in the district four years ago. He said they formally looked at other leagues then and it is still a discussion, but he didn’t know if there was really anything to it or not. The school’s site council has also discussed leagues.
