Eagles go 1-2 in state pool play, do not advance

The Clifton-Clyde Eagles traveled to the 1A Division I State Volleyball Tournament in Hays Kansas on Oct. 31. The Lady Eagles played close in a very tough pool but unfortunately couldn’t make it out of pool play. In the fi rst match, the Eagles
lost to Goessel 19-25 and 5-25.

Cross country season finalized at state

WAMEGO – The Washington County Cross Country team traveled to Wamego to compete in the 2A State meet on Saturday. 
For the boys, Eric Miller was the lead Tiger runner. Miller took 40th in a time of 18:29, teammate Kyle McGatlin came in one spot behind at 18:33. Joe Stegman crossed the finish line at 19:30, good for 70th, Martin Walter took 79th at 20:00 well
ahead of his mark of 21:51 last year.

Tigers sweep the competition on their way to 2A substate title

The Washington County Lady Tigers volleyball team hosted a 2A Sub-State Volleyball site on Oct. 25. The Lady Tigers faced
three opponents and were able to advance through the day to win the State tournament berth. In the first match, Washington
County took on Onaga. Cammie Miller had 18 points including two aces to lead the Lady Tigers.

Bulldogs fall at sub-state

The Linn Bulldog volleyball team traveled to Pike Valley High School to take part in their sub-state. Linn had a great effort on the day ultimately going 1-1. In the fi rst match, the Bulldogs took on the host, Pike Valley Panthers. Linn was lead by Seniors Kesiah Thalmann and Kayla Ohlde both scoring ten kills.

Hanover takes care of Clifton-Clyde

The Clifton-Clyde football team hosted the Hanover Wildcats on Friday for a key late season game for both teams. Hanover used a great rushing game as they pushed toward the win over the Eagles 58-6. The lead rusher for Hanover this week was Preston Jueneman as he used fi ve carries to run for 173 yards including 4 touchdowns

Washington County gets district win over old Blue Valley League foe

The Washington County Tigers traveled to Riley County on Friday evening for what would be a very competitive, offense driven game. This was the first time Washington County and Riley County faced off since the breakup of the old Blue Valley League. The Tigers were able to gain the victory 41-32.

He received a baseball from the fi eld and his photo was included in a Kansas City Star photo gallery. His mother Jill is behind him. He got the ball right after this picture was taken. Jackson is the son of Cade and Jill Winter, Clifton.

To most it would seem like this week’s subject would be easy. But due to deadlines and timing of World Series games, you will know the result of the fi rst game of the World Series long before this week’s edition is sent to print, so we will get to that next week. So I am going to switch gears this week and speak about rivalries. Rivalries and how sometimes they just don’t matter.

The Washington County boys team celebrate finishing the regular season undefeated.

The Twin Valley League Cross Country meet was held on October 16th in Troy . Local runners were very prominent in this year’s race. In the boys’ race, Washington County completed a perfect regular season by winning the TVL for the third year in a row. It was the first time that Washington County has won every meet in the regular season.

Tiger boys win by one point at Riley County

The Washington County boys won a prestigious race at Leonardville on Saturday. This was their first team win their in 40 tries.

Area runners competed Saturday at Riley County in the final race before the league meet coming up this week. In the boys’ race, Washington County senior Dylan Hodgson continued his excellent year with a first place fi nish at 16:04, a record time for the course. Kyle McGatlin took a top ten spot with a ninth place finish at 18:18, Eric Miller had a time of 18:19 good for 11th place.

Hanover gets district win over Lincoln, 54-8

The Hanover Wildcat Football team traveled to Lincoln on Friday for a district matchup against the Lincoln Leopards. The Hanover offense was firing in this game and the Wildcats picked up a win 54-8. A well-balanced rushing attack spurned the Wildcats. Six different players had carries led by Trey Lohse’s 60 yards and a touchdown on three carries.
