Local bowlers compete 
in state tournament Three local bowling teams placed in the top 40 teams at the 76th annual Kansas State Bowling Tournament in Junction City and Manhattan. The team of One Sum Itchies (Washington Bowl) placed third in the competition, while the Game Time Bar and Grill team placed 36th and the Bruna Implement Co., team fi nished in 38th place.

Bentz to compete at world’s largest junior high rodeo

Rodeo draws biggest crowd since 2010

WASHINGTON – Audience numbers for this year’s rodeo were the highest ever since the 150th anniversary performance held in 2010, says Washington County Saddle Club member Dennis Portenier. Part of the reason for the increase was probably attributable to the weather, he said, a favorable conclusion because the forecast was anything but.

Off season commitment essential to Hunter Kier’s college football dream

WASHINGTON – A dream held since childhood continues to drive Hunter Kier to work hard to develop his football game. Football season is year round for the Washington County High School athlete, who will be a junior this fall. Ultimately, he wants to earn a college football scholarship, but knows he has to outwork other athletes to achieve the dream. Kier, Washington, said he has loved football as long as he can remember.

Hanover boys run away with state track title

“I am really proud of our entire boys track team as they captured Hanover’s very first state track championship,” said 
Hanover High School track coach, Kim Lohse, after his Wildcats scored 79 points en route to the Class 1A team title at the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships last weekend at Wichita.
