Lady Tigers start slow but pick up the pace to beat Frankfort

The Washington County High School girls’ basketball team started off slow last Friday in their home game against Frankfort, scoring only eight points. But the Lady Tigers picked up the tempo in the next two periods to claim the Twin Valley League win, 54- 27 against the Wildcats. Erin Alexander led scoring for Washington County with 12 points.

A team of Hanover fi fth grade boys won a basketball tournament recently in Fairbury, Neb. Team members included from left, Keegan Dimler, Philip Doebele, Emmitt Jueneman, Braelen Stallbaumer, Trevor Graff, Cole Meyer, and Tregan Graff.

Tigers take to the road and bring down the Bualos

The Washington County boys’ basketball team took down Onaga by a dozen points, 52- 40, when the two teams met last Friday at Onaga. But the score was not indicative of how close the game actually was. In fact, the Buffalos held an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, and owned an 18- 16 margin at half. The second half saw the Tigers outscore Onaga 36-22 to claim the win. Washington County was ahead 37-30 going into the final stanza. Then OHS went on an 8-0 run to grab a 38-37 lead at the sixminute mark. The score stood tied at 40 with four minutes left in the game. That was the last time the Buffalos would find the rim.

Wildcats hold Frankfort to three second half points

The Hanover High School girls’ basketball team brought home a 45-28 victory from a road game last Friday at Frankfort. The HHS Wildcats jumped to a 34-25 first half lead. They would only score 11 second half points, but held Frankfort to three to claim the win. Riley Doebele led scoring for Hanover with 10 points. She also had six steals. Shelby Bruna added nine points, grabbed six rebounds and had two assists. Morganne Zabokrtsky led in rebounds with seven, while Katelyn Jueneman brought down six and Ashton Jueneman had five. Ramona Weber finished with three blocked shots.

Hanover girls slip by Wetmore in overtime

Keeping the Wetmore girls scoreless in the fi rst quarter, the Hanover High School girls’ basketball team owned a 7-0 lead after the fi rst eight minutes. Then the Cardinals’ offense came alive, forcing the Lady Wildcats to hustle to stay in the game. Playing in a TVL game last Friday evening at Wetmore, the Lady Cardinals fought back to tie the score at 31 at the end of regulation.

Slow start costs Linn boys at home

LINN – Linn matched up with Doniphan West in the second half of Friday night’s home game, but carrying a 14-point deficit
into the half spelled their doom, losing 33-48. The boys started slow, giving up a 5-15 first quarter to the Mustangs, which grew up to a 9-23 score at the break.

Linn girls shoot a high percentage for Twin Valley League road win at Onaga

ONAGA – After four trips to Onaga for the Twin Valley League Tournament a couple weeks ago, the Linn girls made a return trip on Friday for their regular season league game. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start against the 1-12 Buffaloes. Linn was shooting well, but couldn’t stop Onaga’s game down low. While the Bulldogs were behind after one quarter, 14-16, Linn made a run in the second quarter to go up by 10 at one point. They couldn’t protect the lead and let it slip to a three point benefit by half, up 34-31.

Down at halftime, Hanover catches re to take down Axtell at home and stay unbeaten

The Hanover High School boys’ basketball team kept their record perfect after last Friday’s home game against Axtell. AHS owned a slim 25-23 lead at half, then Hanover caught fire and outscored the Eagles 36-16 in the second half, leading to a 59-41 victory for HHS. The Wildcats are now 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the Twin Valley League. Nine players contributed to the scoring for Hanover, with Will Bruna leading the way with 11 points. Trey Lohse and Hunter Nicholson added nine points each.

TVL boy’s championship game ends in overtime as Hanover beats Washington County by 2

ONAGA – Two free throws by Hanover High School sophomore Will Bruna sealed a victory for the Wildcats in the  championship game of the Twin Valley League basketball tournament Saturday evening at Onaga High School.
The charity shots came with less than one second remaining in overtime and resulted in a 65-63 win for HHS over Washington County

ONAGA – The Washington  County High School girls’ basketball team faced Centralia in the championship game of the Twin Valley League tournament Saturday at Onaga. The Lady Tigers fell behind early, and despite a fourth-quarter surge,
WCHS fell short and lost 50-46 to Centralia. This was Washington County’s first loss of the season
