Becky S. Hughes, 53, Washington, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at the Washington C o u n t y Hospital. She was born July 30, 1960, at Washington, daughter of Claude F. and Ruth G. (Burnett) Rochek. In 1978, she graduated from Washington High School and then attended Joseph’s College of Beauty, Beatrice, Neb. Earnest A. Applegarth, 87, of M o r r o w - ville, KS, passed away M o n d a y, December 30, 2013, at Fairbury, NE. Visitation will be Thursday, J a n u a r y 2, Noon to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive  friends from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 3, at the Morrowville Christian Church. Rev. Ron Brown will officiate. Kathy Roberts will play the organ while John Durst and Ed Durst sing “How Great Thou Art.” The congregation will sing “Old Rugged Cross” and“What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” The pallbearers will be Rick

Theresa M. Esslinger, 32, Marysville, d i e d Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at her home in Marysville. She was born August  18, 1981, at Marysville to James (Albert) and Alice Detimore Esslinger. She graduated from Marysville High School in 2000. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her parents; son, Mickey James Roger Mullican; brothers, Jonathan
Esslinger and wife, Lynette, and Justin Esslinger and wife, Megan, all of Marysville; and step-grandfather, Les Ayers,
Washington. A funeral service was Monday, Jan. 6, at Kinsley Mortuary. Rev. Ken Tubbesing officiated. The pallbearers were David Weber, Scott Weber, Joe Cohorst, Steve Warren, Triston Detimore and Ron Brooks

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Larry; two daughters, Emily Rippe and husband, Jeramy, Hanover, and Lacey Turner and husband, Josh, Washington; son, Taylor Hughes and friend Tiffany Ward, Pratt; sisters, Sherry Rochek and companion Charles Harper, Manhattan, and Lori Rochek, Washington; and two grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.

Bill Rencin

Bill Rencin, 83, Hanover, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at St. Elizabeth’s Regional Medical Center, Lincoln, Neb. He was born Aug. 14, 1930, at Clay Center. He attended Beaver Creek School for grades 1-8. He graduated from Barnes Rural High School in 1948. He married Marian Klozenbucher on June 13, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf. Mr. Rencin was very active in multiple organizations, serving on various boards at the local, state and national level. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, which included county, state and national membership. He was also a charter member of the Barnes Lions Club for 40 years, and he was a life member of the American Legion, John Doerr Post 145. He served in the National Guard in 1950 and Regular Army from 1953-1955. He was based in Colorado Springs and Hanau, Germany. He was a member and an officer at various times for the Washington County Legion Council.

Dylan Taylor Bruna, 21, Hanover, died Thursday , Nov. 28, 2013, near Hanover. He was born Nov. 24, 1992, at Hanover, son of Brian and Darice (Ohlde) Bruna. He attended St. John’s Catholic School in Hanover and graduated from Hanover High School in 2011. He then attended North Central Kansas Technical College, Beloit. He was a member of St. John’s
Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Floyd and Dorothy Bruna, and Norbert Ohlde. Survivors include his parents, Brian and Darice Bruna, Hanover; three brothers, Logan Bruna, Jaydan Bruna and Camran Bruna, all of Hanover; and grandmother, Marilynne Ohlde, Linn. Alice E. Brax, 94, Lindsborg, died Nov. 15, 2013. She was born Dec. 6, 1918, the daughter of Gust and Hannah (Thorstenberg) Ericson in Lindsborg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; sisters, Imogene Dryer and Hazel Ericson; brothers, Carl Ericson and Virgil Ericson, and grandson, Jeff Brax. Survivors include her sons, Robert Brax and wife, Jill, McPherson, Don Brax and wife, Kathy, Washington, Allan Brax and wife, Cheryl, Grand Island, Neb., and David Brax and wife, Sue, Savannah, Mo; eight grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.

Lonnie Beneda

Lonnie D. Beneda, 69, son of Ernest Beneda and Viola Benyshek, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, in the Salina Regional
Health Center. He was born Dec. 2, 1943, at the Beiderwell Hospital in Belleville. Lonnie attended the Jefferson Center
country school that was originally one mile south of the Beneda homestead on 220 Rd. Lonnie played football at Cuba
High School. After graduation in 1961, he went to work at The Belleville Telescope for 51 years. He married Nancy Dart on July 7, 1963, at the Cuba Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Beneda, his mother Viola Benyshek Beneda, a nephew Jeffrey Jandera, and a niece Holly Klink. Survivors include his wife Nancy Dart Beneda; one son, Danny Beneda and wife, Nancy, Cuba; a daughter, Deena Khosh and husband, Farhang,
Lawrence; four grandchildren; and one sister Glennis Trecek and husband, Bob, Belleville. Services were at the Cuba
