Mary Peterson

Mary (Rundle) Peterson, 94, Manhattan, (formerly of Clifton), died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Peterson and wife, Martha, Bellevue, Neb., and Steven Peterson and wife, Tina, McPherson; brother-inlaw, Marlin Peterson and wife, Brenda, Clay Center; sisterin- law, Maxine Peterson, Clay Center; five grandchildren and their spouses and 20 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 21 at United Methodist Church, Clay Center with Herb Mugler officiating. Burial followed at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center. Nicole Cooper

Nicole R. Cooper, 35, Linn, died Jan. 11, 2015, at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb. Survivors include her four children, Haley, Dillon, Garrett and Maggie; her parents, Tom and Deanna Giles, all of Linn; grandmother, Neva  emanett, Concordia; and brother, Alex Hoffman and wife, Kristina, California. A funeral service was Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Gina Miller played the organ while the congregation  sang “In The Garden,” “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Jace Demanett, Keith Larson, Mark Perry, Keith Perry, Kevin Larson and Jim Elyea. Burial was in the Linn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been  stablished. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 W. 2nd, Washington, KS 66968

LaDonna Kolman-Reyes

LaDonna Kolman-Reyes, 66, of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., passed to her heavenly father on January 7, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer at her home in Winthrop Harbor, surrounded by her husband Gerry, her mother and members of her family.LaDonna was born on Nov. 4, 1948, in Belleville, Kan. to Joseph and Doris (Bertram) Kolman. She grew up near Morrowville, Kan., until her family moved to Washington, Kan., while LaDonna was still in elementary school. She graduated from Washington High School in 1966. She was the eldest of seven children and the first of her family to attend college. She graduated Kansas State University with a degree in general home economics in 1970, then completed a nursing major at Kansas University’s Medical Center in Kansas City and obtained her master’s in nursing at Memphis University, Memphis, Tenn. In the early 70’s LaDonna volunteered as a cook and counselor at Camp Merry Heart in New Jersey.

Maxine Chadbourn

Maxine J. Chadbourn, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Survivors include daughters: Paula Fuoss and husband, Jim, Bartlett, Ill., Loree Nichols and husband, Lee, Sedgwick, Janelle Case and husband, Ray, Manhattan, Michelle Mundhenk and husband, Kent, Papua, New Guinea; daughter-in-law, Beth Ann Breen and husband, Doug, Tucson, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Pleasant Valley Church, rural Sedgwick, with Pastors Paul Wulff and Robert Varner officiating. Burial followed at Lebanon Cemetery,
Pretty Prairie. Memorials may be given to Pleasant Valley Church in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.

Esther Mueller

Esther Mueller, 96, died Jan. 2, 2015, on her 96th birthday, at the Suites of Someren Glen in Centennial, Colo. She was born Jan. 2, 1919, in Washington to Frank and Lena (Merritt) Gressman.She graduated from Washington High School, attended business school in Lincoln, Neb. and worked in the Washington County welfare officefor six years prior to being a homemaker for many years. She married Quentin Hugo (Q. H.) Mueller in Oskaloosa on Nov. 12, 1943, and they were married for 35 years prior to his death in 1979.She lived in Washington for most of her life and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Eastern Star and Fidelia Literary Club. She also enjoyed a variety of volunteer work.

Leland Elliott

Leland W. Elliott, 82, Manhattan, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born Sept. 26, 1932, in rural Hallowell, the son of Ernest and Maxine (Bramlette) Elliott. He grew up on the family farm near Oswego, attended the local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Oswego High School. He was in the Army Signal Corps for two years and served in Austria and France.On Dec. 30, 1960, he married Karen L. Waser at the Methodist Church in Washington.He received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics in 1958 and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics in 1962 from Kansas State University. While attending KSU, he was a member of Farm House Fraternity and Collegiate 4-H. Following graduation, he worked for the Cooperative Extension Service for three years. He opened a Real Estate Officein Washington and was a Real Estate Broker for 10 years.
