Beth Knedlik

Ann (Burt) Knedlik , 62, of Paola, Kan., passed away sunday , March 15, 2015. Beth  as born March 28, 1952, in Belleville, Kan., the daughter of Edwin and Marilyn (Burton)  urt, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Washington High School in Washington, Kan., and Crum’s Beauty College in Manhattan, Kan. Beth married the love of her  life Gregory Knedlik on July8, 1972, and they farmed for several years near Greenleaf, Kan. She was a loving wife and  wonderful mother and so proud of their three children. Later, she worked as a dental assistantin Washington, Kan., before moving to Paola, Kan., where she found her perfect job at Simply You Salon and Boutique. Beth loved life and lived it  to the fullest. Her energeticattitude was contagious and she loved being with her family and friends. She loved to host and entertain.

Grace Mueller

Grace La Vonne Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at The Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born on April 1, 1919, to Frederick D. and Ella E. (Waterman) Laue on a farm, which was north of Greenleaf. She and her family later moved to the family farm just north of Highway 36. She graduated from Sunnyside Elementary School and then from Hanover High School with the Class of 1938. Following high school, she worked for the Perry Egg Packing Plant and also as a Bell telephone operator. On Feb. 7, 1943, she married Charles John Mueller. After  living with her husband invarious stateside duty stations which included locations in California, New Mexico and Nebraska the couple returned to Hanover after WWII to farm, to help create the Mueller Sand and Gravel Company and to raise their four children. In the community, she was a leader in Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Kansas Cowbelles, and various other Hanover and Washington County events.

Dennis Swoboda

Dennis Michael Swoboda, 60, Commerce City, Colo., formerly of Hanover, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colo. He was born Nov. 13, 1954, at Beatrice, Neb., to Louis and Agnes (Kostal) Swoboda. He attended school in Hanover and graduated from Hanover High School in 1972.He married Deborah Zimmerman of Washington, on May 1, 1976, at Hanover, and they had two daughters. They later divorced in 1988.He worked for Kiers Thriftway, Sedlacek’s Furniture, Endicott Clay Products and Farmland Foods before moving to Arvada, Colo. in 1990, where he began working for Tarco, Inc.

Veone E. Gripp, 94, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at University of Kansas Hospital. A visitation was held 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave, Kansas City, KS 66112 with memorial services following at 3 p.m. A graveside service was conducted at the Washington cemetery Feb. 20 by Pastor Rustin McClure of Washington.Veone was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Butler County, Kan. to Walter and Stella Hatter. She lived in Washington, Kan. throughout childhood and was a 1939 alumni of Washington High School. She married Francis Gripp in 1940 and moved to Kansas City. They returned each year to attend the Washington High School alumni banquet. She was a payroll clerk for the Board of Public Utilities, Kansas City, Kan. prior to retirement.She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Gladiola Chapter #459, American Legion Auxilliary #199, Abdallah Shrine Temple Ladies without Nobles, and a Ladies Card Club.

Marjorie P. Breitling, 81, Northglenn, Colo., died Feb. 6, 2015. Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Potts, Washington, two sons Gary Schroeder and wife, Carlene, Mark Schroeder and wife, Tammy, a daughter, Cathy Marshall; six grandchildren and three (soon to be four) greatgrandchildren. Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery, 10201 North Grant St., Thornton, Colo. was in charge of arrangements.

Dale Peterson

Dale Eldon Peterson, 79, died Feb. 13, 2015. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Evelyn (Epp) and children, Susan Stolzenburg and husband, Jay, Salina, John Peterson and wife, Janel, Haddam, Dalene Burnum and husband, Jeremy, Winter Park, Fla.; six grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Jean Peterson and Caroline Peterson. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Nutter Mortuary, 116 W. 6th Street, Concordia, with family receiving guests from 6-7 p.m. A prayer service with communion will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Clyde. Memorials may be made to Bethany Oratorio Society, Gideon’s International or Radio Kansas.
