Hulda Meyer

Hulda Meyer, 88, Linn, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at the Linn Nursing Home. She is survived by many cousins and her farming community. A funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn, with Rev. David Gruoner officiating. Eunice Beier was the organist and the congregation sang “My God, Accept My heart This Day,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and “Let Me Be Thine Forever.” Pall bearers were Fred Meyer, Danny Meyer, Joshua Meyer, Erik Zabokrtsky, Mark Kenaston and Leonard Herrs. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Meadowlark Hospice or the donor’s choice. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.

Lyle Swiercinsky

Lyle Swiercinsky, 90, Las Vegas, Nev., died Dec. 19, 2014. He was born May 16, 1924, a son of Rose and Charlie Swiercinsky, Washington. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He married his wife, Gladys Mittler, of Morroville, in 1944. They had two sons. The family moved to Palmdale, Calif., in 1954. Lyle and Gladys retired in Las Vegas in 1988. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 2009; two brothers; and a son, Gary, of Colorado. Survivors include his son, Dennis Swiercinsky, Portland, Ore. Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas, Nev., is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Tyler McBride

Tyler Brent McBride, 22, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Pittsburg. He was born on April 24, 1992, at Liberal. He is the son of Tony and Rhonda (Jones) McBride, Hugoton. He graduated from Hugoton High School in 2011. He formerly attended college at Fort Hays State University for three years, and was currently attending Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg. He lettered all four years in wrestling at Hugoton High School and wrestled one year in college at Fort Hays State University. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Hugoton, and he was very active in Boy Scouts with his father and brother, becoming an Eagle Scout. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Garrett McBride, Gunnison, Colo.; a sister, Bethany Fey and husband, Jordan, Austin, Texas; paternal grandmother, Evelyn McBride, Hugoton; and maternal grandmother Janet Jones, Washington. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Bobby McBride and maternal grandfather William R. Jones.

Donald Gregory

Donald R. Gregory, 80, Reynolds, Neb., died Dec. 14, 2014, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Neb. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Prellwitz) Gregory; son Terry Gregory and wife, Maureen, Omaha, Neb.; daughters Lori David and husband, Mark, Eagan, Minn., Brenda Pankratz and husband, John, Billings, Mont., Ann Fryda and husband, Tom, Omaha, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; sister Barbara Stevens, Yankton, S.D., sister-inlaw Alvira Gregory, Savannah, Mo.; brother-in-law Richard Barton and wife, Marlene, Mahaska; and daughter-in-law Jackie Gregory, Reynolds, Neb. Services were Wednesday, Dec. 17 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Fairbury, Neb. A Rosary was Tuesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial was in Rose Creek Cemetery, Reynolds, Neb. Memorials will go to Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Stigge

Dorothy A. Stigge, 60, Washington, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at the Washington County Hospital. She was born Dec. 29, 1953, at Hanover to Willard and Verla (Kruse) Rettig. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1971. On April 12, 1975, she married Dennis Stigge at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hanover. She worked as a pharmacy tech for the Washington Pharmacy. She taught Sunday school and participated in the Washington County Relay for Life. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Dennis; two children, Traci Stigge, Concordia, and Jeff Stigge, Washington; mother, Verla Rettig, Hanover; siblings, Floyd Rettig and wife, Linda, Hanover, Kenneth Rettig and wife, Dotty, Clay Center, and Karen Doerr and husband, Dave, New Castle, Pa. A funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf. Pastor Timothy Lorenz officiated.

Betty Keller

Betty Ilene Keller, 75, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at Abilene. She was born at Washington on Dec. 30, 1938, to Lee and Lucy (Ditmars) Rose. She graduated from Washington High School in 1957. She worked as a CNA and a cook for a nursing home. She was a dealer for Stanley Home Products and traveled for the company, setting up booths at local fairs and events. She moved to Abilene and spent the past 18 years. She was a member of the Washington Christian Church and attended the Christian Church in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Jamie Keller.

Lee Hinkle

Lee Oliver Hinkle, 91, Greenleaf, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids. His parents were Neola E. (Weiche) and John G. Hinkle. He was born Feb. 10, 1923, on the family farm near Barnes. After graduating from Barnes High School in 1941, he joined the US Navy serving aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Lucille Lippert in 1947, they had four children together. They later divorced. After the war, he returned to farming and continued to farm until his retirement. Then on Dec. 10, 1982, he married Maxine R. (Showalter) With in Beatrice, Neb., she died in 2012. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenleaf, VFW Post 2699 in Marysville, Shaw Post 235 of the American Legion in Greenleaf and had served as a member of the Greenleaf City Council for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine, an infant daughter, Jody Lynne, and a sister Edna Mae Cook.

Arlene Seifert

Arlene Virginia (Keeler) Seifert, 95, rural Clyde-Clifton area, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville. She was born April 4, 1919, to August Carl and Clara Elizabeth (Fredericksen) Avers near Davenport, Neb., the eighth of nine children. She attended the Davenport school, graduating the eighth grade. She married Lowell Keeler on Jan. 23, 1938. On Jan. 30, 1985, Lowell suddenly died. On Aug. 21, 1993, she married Dean Leon Seifert. They moved to Dean’s farm in the Brantford area and were involved in the farming operation. She sold her quilts to those in nine different states and over 100 for the World Relief Organization. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Davenport, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell; sons, Gordon and Valdon; grandson, Danny; daughter-inlaw, Shirley; sisters, Gladys, Orva, Friedline and Bernice; and brothers, Roy, Alvie, Burdette, and Merle.

Lester Clark

Lester Ralph Clark, 91, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, in Conroe, Texas. He is survived by two daughters Jane Kelley, Conroe, Texas, and Judy Hamilton and husband, Norm, Plano, Texas, four sisters, Laurene Knedlik, Alamo, Calif., Jeanette Oentrich, Barnes; Connie Benson, Hayward, Calif., and Carol Jones, Fremont, Calif. He is also survived by four grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation was at Pat H. Foley Funeral Directors in Houston, on Sept. 17. Pastor Jeffrey Eernisse of Second Christian Church officiated at funeral services in the chapel of Brookside Lauder Funeral Home and graveside services following at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston on Sept. 18.
