Freedom Riders drill team added to Barnes Lighted Horse Parade lineup

BARNES – The Freedom Riders drill team from Concordia will be included in Barnes’ 10th annual Lighted Horse Parade on Saturday, Nov. 30, beginning at 7 p.m. Prior to the parade, a soup supper will be offered at the firehouse from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and for an hour following the parade. A free-will offering applies. In addition, Santa Claus will drop by the Hometown Cafe from 6 to 7 p.m. Downtown businesses such as Sunflower Antiques, the Nook and Our Daily Bread will be open during the evening.

Angel Tree, food gift boxes need sponsors this Christmas season

The Washington County Ministerial Alliance is once again sponsoring the Angel Tree program at Washington City Hall and banks in Washington, Hanover, Greenleaf and Linn. Each tree has a suggested shopping list for needy recipients within the county. Gifts are then delivered to the United Methodist Church in Washington or to the location where the Angel Tree was selected. Those knowing of individuals or families who need assistance during the Christmas season should call Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock at the United Methodist Church at 785-325-2158.

Clean Line power line route approved by KCC

HOUSTON – Grain Belt Express Clean Line LLC (Grain Belt Express Clean Line), an affiliate of Clean Line Energy Partners LLC (Clean Line) of Houston, Texas, recently announced that the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) unanimously approved an Order granting a siting permit to Grain Belt Express Clean Line to construct the 370-mile Kansas portion of a new 750-mile direct current transmission line. The line will originate near Dodge City, Kansas and traverse north and east to the Kansas–Missouri border. The Grain Belt Express Clean Line will deliver low-cost, wind energy from western Kansas to Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and states farther east that have strong demand for affordable, reliable, clean energy.
