Crites and Chavez to wed

Nicole Erin Crites, Wichita, and Ian David Chavez, Wichita, will be married April 8, 2017. Parents of the future bride are William “Gene” Crites, Sr., Wichita, and Amy and Kris Fagan, Salina. The future bridegroom’s parents are Gene Chavez and Lisa and Andy Bratton, all of Eureka. Grandparents of the bride-tobe are Lee and Betty Prellwitz, Morrowville. Grandparent of the future bridegroom is Eleanor Chavez, Wichita.

“I love to help women look and feel great,” said Rebecca Frerking, owner of R Boutique located in downtown Washington. “Expanding my services to include clothing provides another avenue for me to do that.” Frerking expands from providing Mary Kay consultations. The business now offers personal style and trend advice, help with wardrobe selection, skin care consultations and makeup application techniques. In addition, Frerking audits home wardrobes to develop an understanding of individuals to base suggestions and advice on.

Rural Haddam resident donates 16 gallons of blood since 1968

In 1968, Pete Hoffman of rural Haddam was a 27-year-old employee for Reinke Manufacturing and took advantage of the  paid time off Reinke offered for employees who gave blood to the American Red Cross. “Guys would go down to the pool hall,” Hoffman said. “But I did what I was supposed to do. I gave blood.”

A facility dog, Jamaica, from KSDS greeted children at the Washington Public Library summer reading program on Wednesday, July 15. KSDS representative Letha Nelson accompanied Jamaica on her visit to the library.

Mirror Mirror Salon opens in Barnes

“I have been trying to figure out what I wanted to do now that my kids will all be in school,” said Andrea Baxa, owner of Mirror Mirror Salon in Barnes. “When the opportunity to buy this salon was presented to me, I knew I had to jump on it.” Ownership of the building and business transferred to Baxa in May. She found out about the sale in just in time to delegate her tax return towards the venture instead of another expenditure.

Kohlmeyer wins Best of Show in art contest

Four members of the GFWC Modern Pioneers Study Club attended the GFWC Kansas 120th Convention Apr. 17- 18 at Lyons. The highlight of the meeting was receiving the Best of Show award in the state art contest for Breanna Kohlmeyer, a Washington County High School senior. Her piece was an ink drawingentitled “Decomposed.” There were 110 entries from across the state.
