Washington County Fair parade

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church had the grand champion float in Washington’s annual parade. The parade theme was, “Heroes aren’t born, they’re made.” Washington Christian Church placed first in the church category, and Immanual Lutheran Church placed second.

Fair time fun in the pool

The weather at this year’s Washington County Fair wasn’t as hot as in years past, but that didn’t stop a large crowd of young people from heading over to the Washington swimming pool on the Saturday of the fair to compete in a fun new competition.

Rotary names students of the month

Holly Delay and Riley Moore were named Rotary students of the month. Recent Washington County High School graduate Holly Delay, of Morrowville, was recently named Washington County Student of the Month by the Washington Rotary Club. She was selected for this honor because of her academic achievements, leadership, activities, athletic accomplishments and community service. Holly, daughter of David and Connie Delay, is a perennial high honor roll student, and an Elks Lodge scholarship recipient. She earned a 3.88 GPA at Washington County, as well as a 4.0 GPA in her fi ve college classes through Cloud County. She has twice been a class offi cer and has been active in cheer team, dance team, FBLA, FFA, Art Club and FCCLA.

Dean and Connie Herrs announce the engagement of their daughter, Chelsey Herrs, to Erik Zabokrtsky, son of Thomas and Marsha Zabokrtsky and Nina and Fred Meyer.

The future bride and the future groom both live at Linn.

Millers to celebrate 50th anniversary

Jerome and Beverly Miller, Morrowille, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15 with a card shower. The couple has four children, Rene (Larry) Asher, Shawn (Kim) Miller, Todd (Amy) Miller, and Pamela (Allen) Virus. They have 11 grandchildren including one who is deceased; and two great-grandchildren. Cards can be sent to them at 1411 26th Road, Morrowville, KS 66958

The Washington High School class of 1958 gathered Saturday, May 26, for a reunion of their 60th anniversary hosted at the home of Janet Jones. A day to remember

Campbell-Klein Post No. 349 American Legion and Auxiliary out of Steele City, Neb., conducted Memorial Day services on Sunday, May 27, at the Steele City Cemetery and the Joy Creek Cemetery southwest of Hollenberg. American flags were placed on each veteran’s grave. Master of Ceremonies Mitch Zabokrtsky gave the welcome and prayer. Leah Bales recalled that day of Nov. 19, 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln dedicated a portion of the Gettysburg battlefield as a final resting place for fallen Civil War soldiers by reading the Gettysburg Address. Afternoon speaker Lt. Col. Mark Scheonrock, U. S. Army Ret., recalled the generations of soldiers who, since the Revolutionary War, have served our country around the world to preserve freedom.

Dancing ‘til midnight at Hanover prom

Hanover High School’s prom was April 14. Students posed for photos, including the senior class, above, before the meal. Following the dance students attended the after-prom where they played games and activities until 3 a.m.
