Gold medals and school records at state meet

Washington County freshman Natalie Harlan leads the pack around the track in the 1600 meter run at the state track meet. She got second in the 1600 and third in the 800, but broke school records in both events.

Thomas Atkins flies through the air in the triple jump on his way to a gold medal. The Hanover senior also won the 200 meter dash and was second in the long jump.

Clifton-Clyde senior Brant Douglas stands in focus at the start of the 200 meter dash. Earlier in the day he won the 100 meter dash, giving him the crown as the fastest man in Kansas-Class 1A.

Hanover’s Macy Doebele reaches for the pit in the triple jump. The senior repeated as champion in the event. She also placed fourth in the long jump.

The all-senior Clifton-Clyde 4x100 meter relay team retained their championship crown by winning the event in a time of 44.20. Team members are, from right, Christian Seifert, Nathan Ohlde, Drake Steinbrock and Brant Douglas. Their winning time last year was 44.58, but their school record time set last week at regionals was 43.92.
