The Washington Peewees baseball team led for most of the state championship game on Friday in Concordia, taking an early lead against Concordia American Legion, and holding it for 3.5 innings of the fiveinning game. But the top-seeded Concordia team was able to tie the game in the fourth inning and win the state championship 5-4 in the extra-inning sixth.

Just like the triple digit temperatures that warmed them up quickly in pre-game, Washington started the game hot, getting three runs in the first.

Starting pitcher Payton LeDuc had the first RBI, bringing in Aiden Goeckel who got to first on a walk. LeDuc was able to get to third on wild pitches and then took home on another for Washington’s second run.
