Marilyn (Johnson) Bergstrom, 82, died Saturday, July 8, 2017, at her home in Courtland. She was born Dec. 21, 1934, at Garfield Center, Clay Center, to Lawrence and Verda (Anderson) Johnson. On Sept. 23, she married Marvin Bergstrom. They lived north of Clifton until 1957 when they moved to Courtland to start a farming operation. They eventually formed Bergstrom Livestock Company, which added the marketing of sheep to their business. In 1984, they purchased Farmers Livestock Commission Company, Washington. Mrs. Bergstrom was the head bookkeeper until they sold the sale barn in 2007. She continued to contribute on a part-time basis. Mrs. Bergstrom was involved in several community activities, including over 30 years as a 4-H leader. She was also a Sunday School teacher, teaching Bible School, and was active in the Covenant Women’s group and the Covenant Church. Survivors include her husband, Marvin; children, Quinten (Melissa) Bergstrom, Courtland, and Brenda (Lance) Lagasse, Concordia; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents’ in-law and a sister-in-law. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with the family greeting family and friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Tibbetts Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 13, at the Courtland Covenant Church, Courtland, with burial in the Courtland Cemetery. Officiants will be Jake Englebert and Dwight Garman. Memorials can be made to the Courtland Covenant Church or Central Christian College, McPherson. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, assisted the Bergstrom family with these arrangements.
