Gary Stone graduated from Washington High School in 1977, then went to Beloit Vo- Tech to study electricity.

“I hated it,” he said. That “hate” resulted in Stoney going in a different direction — automobiles.

Actually, his fi rst job was at Washington High School, helping out then custodian, Harold Barnes.

When he was a sophomore, he started working for Keith Burnett at Deep Rock Station. His next gig was at Westside Service.

Located on the west edge of Washington on U.S. 36, the gas station/ convenience store was ran for many years by Bud and Deanna McAtee. Stoney worked for the McAtees from 1976 to 1990.
