Rodney J. Waser, 74, Hiawatha, died Sept. 26, 2014. He was born March 14, 1940, to J. Edward (Bud) and  Irene Roop Waser in Fairbury, Neb. He spent his childhood in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1958. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged to return home to the family farm due to the death of his father. He married Helen Armstrong Waser and relocated to Hiawatha, where he was in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning business. They were divorced. Three children were born to this union. In 1986, he married Sharon Pierce Waser. Upon retirement from their jobs, they became park attendants at Lake Perry for the United States Corp of Engineers for nine years. He was a member of Ozawkie American Legion and a past member of the Hiawatha Elks and Hiawatha Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Edward and Irene Waser. Survivors include his wife Sharon, Hiawatha; two sons, Mark, Topeka, and Dirk and wife, Becky, Horton; one daughter, Stephanie Prohaska and husband, Jim, Kansas City, Mo.;  stepson Lonny Pierce and wife, Lisa, Hiawatha; stepdaughter Amy Mills, Beatrice, Neb.; two sisters, Karen Elliott and husband, Leland, Manhattan, and Mary Ann Crome and husband, Kirk, Washington; and 12 grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 at The Christian Center, 519 North 1st St., Hiawatha. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary will be in charge of the arrangements.
