Virginia Ruth Dankenbring, 61, Greenleaf, died July 23 in Manhattan. She was born to Virgil and Helen Berney on Aug. 10, 1952, in Marysville. She attended school in Washington, graduating in 1970. She went to beauty school in Salina after high school and was a beautician for a few years. She married David Dankenbring on Aug. 4, 1973, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Palmer. She served others in her many jobs during her lifetime. Besides cutting hair, she worked as a cook in several local eateries. She and her husband managed the Phillips 66 station in Linn for 10 years, where she was the drive attendant and office manager. Upon leaving the station, the couple traveled to Texas where they worked and lived in RV parks for many years before returning home to Linn in 2003. During the last of her working years, she was in housekeeping at the Washington County Hospital, in addition to her part time job at Short Stop in Washington. She was preceded in death by her father, Virgil. Survivors include her husband, David, of the home; daughter Christina, son-in-law Timothy and three grandchildren, Phillipsburg; her mother, Helen, Washington, and brother, Virgil and his wife, Lincoln, Neb.
